Knowing

“Do you believe that there is continuity after death?” And I say, “I don’t believe it. It just is.”

That was Ram Dass talking about how there is a way of knowing something that goes beyond the intellect.

There is a way of knowing that has nothing to do with your mind, your evidence, or your powers of reason.

It’s the way you know how to open and close your hand. The way you know how to grow your hair. There is another way to know. A much deeper, much less fallible way to know something.

I think this is what the bible called faith.

Faith, for me, is not just about belief. It's not just believing in spite of evidence. It’s knowing, from the deepest core of your being, what is destined for you. It's knowing, without evidence, without belief, but through direct, first-hand experience of the truth inside of you.

It’s what people mean when they say “feel it in my gut” or “know it in my heart”. There is a way of knowing — not just intuition, but actually, truly knowing.

That knowing comes from being there.

You have been there. You have left your body, you have seen other places and other times — no place, and no time — and you KNOW. You just know.

Clarity and calmness is not just a gift for the few. It is a natural state of being. It is the clear, crisp frequency that emanates from inside. It is always there, underneath the storm clouds of our emotions and the fuzzy bullets of thoughts. There is a presence, a faith, a knowing that lives there. And it’s who we are.
