What Do You Really Want?

On the quest to discover your life’s purpose

Up until recently I never had a clear vision of what to do with my life. And that stressed me out — a lot.

The cover of my new book. This post is an adapted version of the introduction to the book.

I had this deep, vague intuition that the world was wide and filled with opportunity — if I could just figure out the perfect direction to go that would send me directly to the life of my dreams.

In my quest to find this mythical path, I felt lost and confused, judged, and misguided. Even the people I respected, the ones who told me to chase my dreams, never had much to say about how to figure out what my dreams were. Well, nothing practical, at least.

They would encourage me to follow my passions, take tests, and don’t be afraid to fail. I started to realize this was the standard, canned advice out there because most people never found the answers themselves.

Instead of discovering what they really wanted, they simply climbed whatever ladder was presented to them. From the top, all they could do was shout down about how to climb.

But learning how to climb is the easy part. Learning which ladder to climb is the hard part.

Because, if you think about it, once you know what you truly want, what can stop you? Once you know that there’s something out there that you are prepared to devote your life to, how can anything stop you?

You’re either going to die trying, or you’re going to succeed. It’s really that simple.

And it brings a great deal of peace because even if you try to bail, there’s nothing else that you’d rather do. You might stall, or delay, or get sidetracked, but you never really lose your way because your heart always knows the way back.

It’s the type of thing that, once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Once you know, you can never forget. Even if you try to turn your back to run away, something always brings you back.

My objective in writing my new book, Aimless, is to use my story as an example — to show you that you can find your purpose in life and create a career out of it, too. My hope is that, after reading, you too will recognize that there is a calling inside of you, and all you have to do is listen.

In a society that seems to discourage us at every turn from finding the work that makes us happy, I finally realized what to do with my life. This is the story of how I did it.

Right now, I’m doing a crowd-funding campaign to make the book a reality. If you’re wondering “What should I do with my life?”, this book may be the answer you’re looking for. Pre-order before November 14 to access cool bonuses!
